Now that New York Fashion Week has come to an end, it’s time to trade our runway heels for the comfort of our closets. For me, this is usually an exciting time because it means spring transition. Spring is definitely my favorite season although it’s super short in Texas. This year my wardrobe transition will be a little different and I plan to document my secrets for you. February was all about the fall/winter capsule wardrobe. March will be all about properly transitioning your wardrobe. I have included some tips here, because I’m sweet like that, and if you’re reading this, you rock with me so we all have to look good!
“Get rid of all things that no longer serve you.”
Listen, after the last few years, we have learned what to hold space for. We are more self-aware and far more conscious than ever. Here are my guidelines for pulling to purge:
- It no longer fits or is ill-fitting
- It is stained, torn, or faded
- The cut or style is dated
- It triggers a negative response
“Up-cycle your gently loved items, donate them or sell them for cash.”
You probably know by now that I’m a Posher. I rotate my wardrobe frequently with my one-in-two-out rule and I love it! I enjoy my things, usually attach them to memory, and send them off to bring joy to someone new. I’ve been a member of Poshmark for about five years but became an active seller last year. Things that I don’t deem worth my time to photo and upload, I take to local resale shops such as Buffalo Exchange, a charity resale shop or a women’s shelter. Other resale platforms include Mercari, Depop, and Thred Up. Did you know higher-end designer items can be placed on consignment?
“Clean and store your winter garments and accessories.”
I’ve always encouraged my clients to pull winter from their wardrobes especially if their space is limited. You won’t wear what you can’t see so let’s get everything visible and forefront! Cleaning shoes, dry cleaning garments, and getting a load or two done beforehand can make for a fresh packing party. Remember different fabrications need to be stored accordingly. I will cover this in my March Instagram series so be sure to follow if you aren’t already doing so.
“Always take inventory of what you own.”
So now, whatever you have left is considered your “working wardrobe”. This wardrobe should take you through the next three months (an entire season). Be sure to Download my wardrobe essentials list. Here you can check off your essentials while also making a note of what you currently need and want.
